‘How Safe Does Your Data Need to Be?’
In a world where the leakage or loss of sensitive data is becoming increasingly embarrassing for both individuals in an Institution and for the reputation of the Institution itself then we are becoming under increasing pressure to secure our information. To what extent is it the task of the institution to keep information secure and to what extent is it the responsibility of individuals? This talk will look at the current risks that individuals face and discuss the balance of usability of systems to the necessary job of keeping systems secure. The methods of attack and hence the vulnerability of devices we all use has changed radically in the past few years and the talk will explore the issues that this raises both in terms of system security and the individual’s privacy rights.
